Chapter 6

Rule 1: There always has to be an offer:

  • to generate a lead (subscribe etc.)
  • to sell

while most ads has no offer.

Rule 2: there must be a good reason to act now, some urgency. A compelling reason. Limited offer, countdown, remove bonus if they do not buy now.

Rule 3: people need clear instructions to follow. A confusing buyer won’t buy.

Rule 4: no marketing activity with no acountability and tracking.

Rule 5: do not spend money on brand building. All will come as side effect of quality. Leave it to giant companies.

Rule 6: follow-up. They see your ad, convert to a lead, and then nobody captures them. You need to capture their address / tel / something. Don’t loose lead. Restate, repackage and offer again. Add deadline. Change the offer.

Rule 7: copy must be strong. Competition is very high. Calm messages unnoticed, the timid ignored.

Chapter 9

Ask happy clients to refer to some other friends.

It’s 7 to 10 touches before a client buys something from you. You need to do newsletters, ads, follow-up messages etc.

Go after big clients with lots of money.

Create a monthly member club with a small subscription.

Chapter 10

A circle of influence: all who you know. “Endorsed mailing” — when you ask a client to send ads in your behalf.
